Where the old records live

Three collections hold the records that matter for anyone researching Kangaroo Flat’s past.

  • Bendigo Regional Archives Centre. The council says it holds original regional Victorian records dating from 1856 to the 1980s, and lists it among the area’s library services.
  • Public Record Office Victoria, records held in Bendigo. These were largely created by local government authorities, courts, mining offices, water and sewerage authorities and health services in Bendigo and the towns around it.
  • The council’s Civic Collection. Photographs, artworks, paper records, costumes, furniture and ephemera on the region’s development since the 1830s, searchable through Victorian Collections.

The library’s own program list includes history sessions.

Parks you can book

The council takes casual bookings for its parks and gardens, including the Kangaroo Flat Reserve and Botanic Gardens at 11 Camp Street, which has a sheltered barbecue area and toilets. More on the suburb’s open spaces is in Lot 4.
